Umpiring
In Sussex, we have many umpires involved at all levels from local league to International. Beginners and Towards C Umpiring courses are run throughout the year across the county.
If you would like to begin umpiring, see Play Netball on the homepage for a list of clubs that you can join to practice at training sessions. To qualify, the following steps must be taken.
Beginners Umpiring Course
- Attend a Beginners Umpiring Course. This course is designed to introduce the basics of umpiring a netball match at a junior or adult level in a club environment. See Umpire Netball on the homepage for a list of upcoming Beginners courses in the county.
- Take the Beginners Award. To apply to take the Beginners Award, candidates must be affiliated and have attended a Beginners course. The test is made up of fifty Yes/No questions of which forty have to be answered correctly. This is followed by a ten minute practical test looking at minimal umpiring ability including whistle use, voice projection and ability to penalise basic infringements.
For more information about booking your Beginners Award contact the umpiring secretary Kim Schepens at kim.schepens@btconnect.com
