Umpire Netball

Do you want to work towards becoming a qualified umpire?  Sussex Netball offers numerous Beginners and Towards C courses across the county.

The Beginners course is an introduction to umpiring Netball and prepares participants with knowledge of rules and umpire competencies to umpire at a basic level and qualifies umpires to apply for the Beginners Umpiring Award. 

The Towards C course prepares the umpire with knowledge of rules and umpire competencies, in order to umpire at average club level and qualifies participants to apply for the C Umpiring Award.  It is expected that participants have previous umpiring experience.

Please note: Participants are required to play during the day, please ensure you are in comfortable sports clothing and trainers.
 

Towards C Courses

Please note that to attend a towards C course you must have been actively umpiring
at a local league level for a reasonable period of time and be proficient with rules and hand signals.  This course prepares you to take your C Award and as such is not suitable for inexperienced umpires.
 
 

Youth Umpire Award

Are you a teacher interested in teaching your students to umpire?

 

AIM: To promote the development of Young Officials

TARGET GROUP: U18 (recommended13-18 Year olds), however there is no lower age limit and the discretion of the teacher/ course deliverer is acknowledged when making this decision.

WHY?
- To improve an understanding of the Game
- To introduce the generic skills of umpiring (foundations laid will provide a pathway to "C" Umpire Award)
- To ensure young people are involved in officiating for school competition
- To assist with and fulfil the National Curriculum requirements at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5

HOW?
- By providing an Orientation Workshops (two and half / three hours) for teachers.
- Students course: Minimum six-hour delivery, tutored by teachers and accredited external tutors. Criteria for teachers and external tutors outlined HERE
- Completion of Workbook with competencies.
- Practical umpire assessment – pass/defer.

DELIVERY:
Stage 1: Teachers Orientation Workshop : 2.5 - 3 hour Orientation Workshop for teachers organised through Specialist Sports College, SSP's, County Academies or County associations.

Stage 2:
Young Umpire Award Delivery to students: Minimum 6 hour delivery by teachers within the school curriculum and/or Out of Hours School Learning (OHSL) and County Academies. All of whom must have attended a YUA Orientation Workshop.
Course may be delivered during lesson time or in after school sessions, candidates‟ complete Workbook Resource with competencies.

Stage 3: Student Assessment: On completion of the Workbook, a practical assessment – pass/defer. Assessors to be identified by England Netball via the county. Assessment optional.
